Coffee Theme Bridal Shower

Here's a bridal shower I did this past weekend. This is was for my husband's co-worker's daughter who are practically like family. The theme of the bridal shower was coffee. It was held at Por Fin restaurant in Coral Gables. The upstairs part of the restaurant had a private section with a bar, tables, chairs and lounge area. The decor was absolutely perfect because it matched with the theme color: chocolate brown. The tables had adorable favors such as little coffee cups with matching saucers, little coffee pots or "Cafeteras" as Cubans would say, and little coffee scoops. The flower arrangements were beautiful as well with clear vases filled with coffee beans. My delicious decor was the perfect touch for the occasion. I used my white wooden stand with a chocolate brown ribbon trim. Each tier had a different delicious goody. It started from coffee cup cupcakes made of chocolate cake with a Kahlua mocha chip buttercream filling, and a marscapone buttercream swirl. I added a sprinkle of cocoa powder and a royal icing handle. The next tier had mexican wedding cookies aka almond cookies. They were packaged in clear boxes and wrapped with a thin chocolate brown ribbon. More cupcakes were added and the last tier had decorated sugar cookies. One side had coffee cups cookies and the other coffee pot (cafetera) cookies. All sugar cookies were decorated with fondant with royal icing details. Absolute perfection!

Gator Grooms Cake

Remember the engagement cupcakes I did for my really good friends, Carla and Scott? Well, here is the grooms cake. As much as I would have loved to have done the wedding cake (the wedding cake was part of their reception package), Carla wanted to have a surprise for Scott and asked me to do the grooms cake. Of course I couldn't say no. They both graduated from the University of Florida and they are extreme Gator Fans. She wanted something very simple but for it to be UF Gator theme. I thought the logo is the best idea and the colors I love because they aren't the true UF original colors. They are more pastel based and I think it went perfect for their May 30th wedding. They actually got married the day before my 6 year wedding anniversary. :) Enjoy!!!

Of course, the "real" photographer's pictures always come out best. Aren't the little bears with the gator gear just so cute???

This is the part I don't like. :( After the hours of mixing, baking, cooling filling, and decorating...they cut the cake. But then I guess eating the delicious cake makes it all worth it!

My First Wedding Cake

Ok so this is the long anticipated first wedding cake I did back in December of 2008. This was for my really good friend's cousin. She lives out of the country as well as her husband (now) because of their job. We had a cake tasting that was amazing and they couldn't decide between the cake flavors and fillings. The cake was 4 tiers along with 2 sheet cakes. All the cakes were vanilla covered in red vanilla fondant but each tier had a different filling. The fillings were dulce de leche, oreos cookies n cream, and strawberries. All Delicious!!!! Another cake decorator friend of mine, Kathy Munoz, helped me with the decorating of the cakes. I underestimated the amount of detail that went into piping the scrollwork design and then painting it in gold. In the end, it all came out perfect. The cake was just beautiful and complemented the season of Christmas.

Sara Carolina's Baptism

Here is another baptism cake for a baby girl. This was done for another friend from elementary and high school. Her daughter is just absolutely adorable and she came to me to do her daughter's baptism cake. We came across an idea to do a 2 tiered caked in form of a dress. The bottom has a little lace trim around the top border on the sides. Towards the front has several pearl nonpareils (decorative confection of tiny balls made with sugar and starch) and a flower. The bottom of the cake has an opening in the front with the inner layer in pink and the skirt is ruffled all around with the lace trim. As for the very top of the cake, the mother put a Precious Moment cake topper which added that special touch.

Ari's Baptism

Here is a cake I did for a friend of mine. It was her son's baptism and she used all white theme. As for the cake, she came across an idea to keep the cake very simple and white. She wanted the chocolate with a mocha chip filling covered in light buttercream with coconut flakes. I used a mirror cake plate instead of a cakeboard and it made it look more elegant.

She also wanted something special for the kiddies. The cupcakes were lambs for the Lamb of God and 1 of cupcakes was a lion for Ari, her son, which his name means Lion. I couldn't have been more pleased with the results. Thanks for looking.

Isabella's 1st Birthday Elmo Style

Here is a cake I did for a friend who's daughter turned 1. She loves Elmo but I had to think how could I make it girly? I used a round cake board covered in red fondant with the bottom cake in a square shape covered in a light lime green fondant with red and white polka dots. The top I decided to make it round covered in white fondant and add accents of yellow and aqua. As for Elmo, I made as if he was coming out the cake. Overall, I think I made the cake perfect for a little girl's 1st birthday Elmo style. Thanks for looking!!!

UCF Graduation Cake

WOW! This is the first time I post a picture of a cake in a long time. I'm going to have to start backwards to go forward. :) Well, here is a cake that I did for a really good friend's cousin. She just graduated from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. I'm very familiar with this school. I use to travel alot in FL when I taught cheerleading camps held at different universities . UCF happened to be one that I visited quite often. It's a great school and the campus is beautiful. As for the cake, my friend said to make it black and gold. I decided to cover the cake in black vanilla fondant. I then made a template of the UCF Pegasus. I tinted white fondant yellow and then it cut it out using my template. I mixed a little bit of gold edible dust with vanilla extract. I basically painted the pegasus with the gold mixture and let it dry. I placed it on the cake and used a little VE (vanilla extract) to make sure it stuck to the cake. As for the sides and border, I just cut out little square/diamonds and the border was rolled black fondant balls with several alternating gold balls. I also rolled fondant into a diploma and put a black ribbon on top. The cake flavor is my signature: vanilla with dulce de leche filling. Yummy! Hope you enjoyed it.

Hi everyone! I'm in the process of redoing my blog. I'm working with a talented graphic designer and so far it looks great. I know I haven't posted in while but the blog will look amazing and be incredibly useful. I really can't wait for you guys to see it. In the meantime, I'm posting all pics and info to my facebook. I will also try to update my flickr. So many places to update but so little time. :) I still haven't decided whether or not to completely delete everything on the blog and start anew. I guess you will have to wait and see....

Baptism Cake Pops

These cake pops were done for a friend's sister-in-law's daughter. She saw these brownie pops from this site, Brownie Pops and she wanted to incorporate these as favors. She wanted them to look a little chic but yet nice for her daughter's baptism. We found these on Beaucoup and they were just what she wanted.

I used my ever so popular homemade chocolate cake recipe and formed them into cake balls. I inserted a lollipop stick into the cake ball and dipped them into melted white chocolate and milk chocolate. For the design, each pop had the baby's initial, A, for Abby and some other scrollwork and dot design. For the finishing touch, each pop was bagged and tied with a white fabric. A personalized tag with an guardian angel background brought it all together.

Movie Theme Birthday

Here's a cake that attracted much attention in the month of December. I actually had a very busy December, which was good. A friend that I went to high school with contacted me because it was going to be her daughter's 11th birthday. It was a sleepover party and theme was movies. I tried to incorporate all the aspects of movies with the popcorn, movie reel, tickets, stars and the director's/scene clapper. The popcorn is real! Yes! I just had to make it a little extra special.

iPod Cake

Well, here's one cake I did for a friend's co-worker. She wanted the cake to be in shape of an iPod and it had to be pink because she loves the color pink. This is one of those things that has to be exact or else it doesn't look right. I think I did an ok job and I was so nervous before she came to pick it up. She was so happy with the results. When she brought it to the office, people kept saying how good the cake smelled and aroma of the buttercream and vanilla was amazing. So, I was happy. :)

I know I haven't posted in a while but it's been kind of crazy. I'm pretty much like 6 months behind on cakes and other goodies I've done. I promise soon I will post pictures especially of my first wedding cake I did in December. Beautiful as can be!!! Plus, pictures of my new cupcake stand that I've been putting to good use. I've had lots of baby showers, bridal showers, and 1st birthdays. You will see them very soon.

Anabel's 1st Birthday Party

I know. I know. I'm really really late in posting this. But here it is finally. Anabel's birthday party was held at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines, FL. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time. We had a Straberry Shortcake bouncehouse, Strawberry Shortcake herself made a personal appearance, a clown that did face painting for the kiddies and balloons, and other goodies. This was a very special birthday because this was a milestone for Anabel. After everything we went through when Anabel was born, we could not believe that one year later we were celebrating her first birthday.

This is probably one of the prettiest cakes I've done to date. The birthday cake was a 10 inch and a 6 inch vanilla butter rum cake with a strawberry cream filling covered in fondant. The Strawberry Shortcake doll was also made by me with the help of 2 great cake decorating and modeling instructors that came from Peru to teach at a local cake decorating supply store that I buy from. This doll took around 5 1/2 hours or so to do and to be honest, she wasn't entirely finished. I didn't put the little white polka dots on the hat because there wasn't anytime for me. It was a busy week but one of the best birthday party.

Here I am very concentrated in trying to secure Strawberry Shortcake's head to her body.

I also made 2 dozen vanilla butter rum cupcakes w ith a dulce de leche filling and buttercream icing swirled with red coloring and Strawberry Shortcake cupcake pics in a cute cupcake stand.

Strawberry Shortcake made an appearance. With the help of my sister-in-law, Karen, we made this foam picture frames with magnets on the back and took pictures of each kid with Strawberry Shortcake. It was a cute keepsake and a memory that they could take home of a very special day.

Anabel's First Birthday

As you can tell, it has been a while since my last post. It has been very busy. The week of Anabel's birthday I took my figure modeling classes in a local cake decorating supply shop. I learned alot and I can't wait to take more classes when the instructors come back.

I did a 9 inch vanilla butter rum cake wtih dulce de leche cream filling and covered the cake in buttercream. The strawberries and flowers and fondant. The number one is fondant/gumpaste. I just used the strawberry shortcake birthday candle as the cake topper and it blends it right well, can't even tell it's an candle.

Zebra Print Bridal Shower Cake with Shoe topper

This cake goes back to one of my original designs (the zebra print cake with the hot pink rose that I did in my very last Wilton class). The request for this cake was made by a good friend of mine's co-worker. Her daughter is getting married soon and wanted a cake for her bridal shower. The colors she chose were black, white and hot pink (my favorite combination). Instead of a rose as the cake topper, she wanted a shoe.

The bottom tier was a 9 -inch 2 layer vanilla butter rum cake with a strawberry cream filling covered in vanilla fondant. The stripes are black vanilla fondant and the hot pink border is just rolled-up fondant balls.

The top tier is the same flavor as the bottom but a 6 -inch cake instead. It's also covered in fondant with fondant accents as well as rolled-up fondant balls.

The cake topper is black fondant mixed with gumpaste. I used a shoe template I found on a cake decorating website. I also used a special tool that shows as if the seams of the shoe were sewn (the stitch mark). I always like to personalize the cakes because it makes it even more special just by adding the person's name. I added the bride-to-be's name: Roxy. I think her name matched the cake perfectly. She loved it and everyone was so happy with the end result.

Happy Halloween!

My son's daycare had a halloween party for the kids and parents. So, the director asked me if I could do a cake. Of course I said yes and was flattered.

I did cupcakes for the kiddies: vanilla and chocolate. I kept them simple. I bought some cute cupcake halloween piks and sprinkled halloween colored sugar. At Michael's, I found Halloween them cupcake stands that were made of cardboard. One was a pumpkin and the other was a spider.

As for the cake, my original idea was a witch but switched it to a ghost with other halloween inspired ideas. The ghost itself is 3 layers of vanilla butter rum with a strawberry cream filling covered in fondant. The bottom part is 2 layers of vanilla butter rum and a strawberry cream filling. I cut out 2 shapes using cookie cutters for the ghost, cat and pumpkin. I wanted it simple and cute. Everyone loved the cake and thought it was cute. :)

Shoe cookies for a bridal shower

Again, I'm a little behind on blogging. I hope to be up-to-date this week. These cookies were ordered from a good friend of mine, Kristy. This was for a family member of hers that is getting married. She loved the shoes I did for our Sex and the City party. She wanted pink and blue and the Cosie shoe cookie. (I also have to post those cookies from our Sex and the City party). These were so cute and everyone loved them. People have been asking me how I do these cookies and if I use cookie cutters. These shoe cookies that I do are one of a kind and I do not use cookie cutters. I think this makes them even more special.

Going on vacation!!!

Beach Theme Baby Shower

Now, it is the younger sister's turn to have her baby shower. This cake was done for the sister of the teapot cake I did a few weeks ago...I hope that made sense. She had a beach theme baby shower since she is having a baby boy. The decor was amazing.

She wanted the same set-up as her sister's cake: a small cake on top with cupcakes along the bottom and the cupcake stand. She sent me a picture of what she liked and it gave me great ideas.

I started off with the baby. It's made of fondant/gumpaste. This was the first time I made a figurine, other than a little bear I did. I think it came out pretty good for the first time.

I added other figures as well, such as the beach ball the baby is holding, the little crab and the flip flops.

Hubby also helped out and did a great job. He made the lifesaver with the rope, the bucket with the little sailboat and the rake.

The cake itself was a 6-inch vanilla butter rum with a dulce de leche cream filling. I covered it in a marbelized fondant. Around the border of the cake, I covered it with brown sugar and topped the cake with a little bit as well.

The cupcakes are also vanilla butter rum with a dulce de leche cream filling. I also swirled and marbelized the buttercream to give it that ocean color effect. I topped each cupcake with a white chocolate seashell.

As for the cupcake stand, it's covered in a semi-shiny white fabric. The bottom board edge is wrapped in a blue ribbon with sewn daggling beads and sequins. The top 2 boards have a ribbon that is used for scrapbooking that I found perfect for this. It's white with the words "Sea waves blue surf tide splash." Absolutely adorable!!!

Tea Party Baby Shower

Ok, this is my favorite cake to date. It has been the most different and original cake I've done since I've started making cakes this year. The girl who I made this for is having a baby girl and her baby shower theme was a tea party. The location of the baby shower was at the Tea Room in Cauley Square . I never knew this place existed and this little area located in South Miami makes you feel like you are not in Miami at all. I can't wait to go there again and actually having some tea (I don't even drink tea :).

The cake was made with three 6-inch vanilla butter rum cakes filled with a dulce de leche cream. One of the layers was trimmed to 4 inches and the top part is an actual cupcake. I rounded out the edges and each of 3 layers were covered in fondant. The spout and the handle were made of fondant & gumpaste. My husband helped me out with this and he did a great job. Who knows, maybe he'll start doing cakes with me. That would be a great team.

The cupcakes are also vanilla butter rum filled with the dulce de leche cream and topped with vanilla buttercream. I cut out little chocolate and vanilla flowers and placed them on top of the cupcakes. The handles were made of royal icing. I just placed each one into the cupcake like a cupcake pick. These were too cute.

I also made the cupcake stand. They are made of 3 different size cake boards covered in a delicate fabric and brown ribbon around the edges. My husband also helped with finalizing the construction of the cupcake stand.

Overall, it came all together and I think it was just beautiful. The mother-to-be was so happy she said I outdid myself. I think I did. I can't wait to see what will top this.

The Little Mermaid Birthday

I finally got to do a Disney character theme birthday cake. This was for a friend's daughter who had her birthday theme as The Little Mermaid. This is probably one of my favorite movies growing up and I love to sing "Part of your world." That is one of my old hidden talents. :)

The cake is a 10 inch vanilla cake with a cookies and cream filling. It's topped with buttercream. The seashells are chocolate, which i did myself. The white coral on the cake is royal icing. The figurines were purchased at the Disney store. The big pink seashell in the front is fondant/gumpaste and witten in royal icing.

The cupcake pops were another goody I made. I originally saw this done on Martha Stewart and I had to try them. They are made of chocolate cake that is crumbled up and mixed with cream cheese icing. This acts as the binder. I roll them into 1.5 inch balls, freeze them for 15 minutes, form them into cupcakes with a flower cookie cutter, freeze them again, and the dip them into chocolate. They are all top with white/clear sprinkles and a red M&M. These are sooooo good.

Baby shower cookie bouquet

I know I haven't posted anything in a while. It has been really busy and I'm finally getting orders here and there. Here is a cookie bouquet, the first one I've ever done. These were done for my dad's co-worker. The ofice had a baby shower for her in the office and my mom asked if I could do cookies. Of course, I said yes and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do a cookie bouquet. I did 4 different cookie designs: baby onesie, pacifier, teddy bear, and the baby bottle. The baby bottle was the only cookie that I had an actual cookie cutter. The others were cut with a knife and shaped. I need to start making my cookie cutters....hmm, another business venture???? Anyways, I'm happy with the results. I hope you like them too.

Birthday present cake

Here is another one of the birthday present cakes I did for a friend of ours. It's buttercream with fondant accents. The cake was for my husband's co-worker who is practically like his mom and she became a grandmother on Friday to a beautiful baby boy. Congratulations Isa!!!

HAHA! I do. What girl doesn't??? Just think about the amazing shoes in Sex and the City but as a cookie. Well, this is my version of those amazing shoes. These were fun to do. After I was done with them, I felt like a shoe designer. I had to figure out how thin or thick to do the heel, how high, the color, etc. I gave these cookies to my girl friends. I had packaged them up in baggies and did cute tags that said "Especially made for you!" Sorry, I didn't take pictures of them bagged up. My friends love them.

These are the brown platforms. More casual but nice. These are my favorite. I actually do like platforms better than heels.

Baby onesie cookies

I was really excited to do these cookies. I love the way they came out. The blue cookies were done for a friend of ours who is expecting her first baby. I also did the little tag and I'm happy with the results. The pink one was done just for fun and it came out cute.

Wedding Cookies

Again, I did another little project for my friend, Carla. She wanted to send some cookies to the girls she was going to ask to be her bridesmaids. I did 3 different styles: wedding dress, wedding cake, and the bridesmaid dress. She told me she wanted the cake to be black and white and the bridesmaid dresses to be yellow. Every cookie is different. The top wedding dresses just have a basic design to them. Two of them have a little fabric bow.

The dresses have the tulle added to them like if they were a princess dress. Some of them have fondant cut-out flowers.

As for the wedding cake cookies, the first three are just basic with hardly any black. Some of them also have the fondant cut-out flowers.

These cookies I added more black to them to give the black and white contrast, which I love, and more fondant cut-out flowers.

The first three bridemaid dress cookies, I went with a white outline.

The last three have theblack outine to them. There is more of a contrast. Each has a defined waist with a neckline.

Adrian's 2nd birthday

Adrian's birthday was in May and I actually did 2 cakes. The first one is just a character pan for Disney's Lightening McQueen. I also did some cupcakes. On some of the cupcakes, I put a sticker of the other characters on a piece of cakeboard, cut it out and taped it with a toothpick. This cake was done for his actual birthday and we celebrated it with the family.

For Adrian's birthday party, which we celebrated it at Oleta River State Park, I did a stacked sheet cake. The top tier of the cake I drew a number 2 with chocolate buttercream and made it look like a race track. I bought a bunch of little Cars and placed them on the cake. I wish I had a better picture but I'm waiting to receive them the good pictures from some friends.

Anabel's Baptism

Anabel's baptism was at the end of March and I decided to do the cake. It was a 16 inch 2 layer cake. The cake itself was vanilla rum and covered and filled in buttercream icing. I ordered a cold porcelain angel holding a baby and placed it on top of the cake. This made a cute keepsake. I did several roses in the middle and sweet peas along the side. This cake was a challenge and it only took me about 7 1/2 hours to do. HAHA! Looking back, I have learned so much since then but I truly feel accomplished and so proud of my first celebration cake.

Engagement Cupcakes

My friend, Carla, recently got engaged and was going to have a party to celebrate this wonderful occasion. We discussed doing a cake but I had mentioned to her since it wasn't such a formal setting how about cupcakes. I sent her pictures of what I had in mind and she loved the idea. We went with 2 flavors, vanilla rum and chocolate. On the vanilla rum cupcake, I iced it with vanilla buttercream and chocolate buttercream on the chocolate cupcake. I did their initials (C & S) in royal icing, teal for the chocolate and red for the vanilla. However, the red initials never set properly so I piped the initials in red colored buttercream on the cupcake. They turned pretty good and everyone had their fair share of cupcakes at the party.

The chocolate cupcakes had the teal royal icing initials. I did these all by hand, about 50 or so because I knew they would break when I tried to insert them in the cupcake.

As for the cupcake stand, my husband, Ariel, and I did this too. We got some measurements from another cupcake stand I saw online. I covered each layer in a shiny white fabric. Carla gave me some left over ribbon she had bought for the party. I used the red thick ribbon for the bottom and the thin teal ribbon for the top part.

Grandfather's 80th birthday

Here is a cake I did for my grandfather's 80th birthday. This is my 4th attempt at a fondant cake and my 1st attempt at a square cake. It was really hard to smooth out the corners so I was forced to put the black strips of fondant. Other than that, I think it came out pretty good.

I have finally decided to create a blog after my cousin, Alex, emailed me stating that I should post my pictures of the cakes I've been doing. I finally did after I saw her blog. It really inspired me so I thank you, Alex.

Well, I started cake decorating in March. I took 4 months of basic cake decorating at Michael's. It was great and I loved having a little bit of "me" time. Basically, these classes help you get started for anyone who doesn't know anything about cake decorating, has the passion for cake decorating, or just wants to do this for fun. Here is one of my very first cakes. This is a vanilla rum cake with buttercream. I decorated it by using cookie cutters for the top middle area and theme was Easter. I think it came out ok for the first time.

During my 2nd course, we used more techniques with buttercream and learned how to make flowers with royal icing. Royal icing makes the flowers hard so they are able to withstand any position. I did a basketweave on the sides and put the flowers on top. The cakes are getting better :) I believe. Sorry the picture is a little blurry.

During the 3rd course, we learned how to use fondant and do tiered cakes. The 1st cake is a fondant cake with a gumpaste ribbon. The 2nd cake is 2 buttercream cakes with royal icing flowers. I decided to tier them instead of stacking them.

During the 4th and final course, we concentrated on fondant and gumpaste. I learned how to make a gumpaste rose. Also, from doing research online, I found a tutorial on how to do a gumpaste teddy bear. The teddy bear is too cute. I can't wait to do more of these. The teddy bear actually became my inspiration for the cake I did in this class. I covered the cake board in sky blue fondant. The cake was also covered in fondant. I did a somewhat tye-dye effect on cake. A took a small amount of white fondant and used textured roller for the blanket. Then, I placed the teddy bear to the side. I think this came out super cute.

On the last day of my class, I already had an idea what I wanted to do. I wanted to make it very chic, sophisticated, and girly. I really, really love this cake. I can't wait to do this one again. The cake is covered in white fondant. The black on the cake is white fondant colored with black and mixed with chocolate fondant. After I rolled the fondant, I freehand cut the strips to make it look a zebra. The chocolate fondant tastes so good like a tootsie roll. I cut circles with pink fondant and rolled them into little balls for the border. My instructor helped with the rose and one of my classmates donated the leaves. This is my favorite cake I've done so far.
